On the day it floated out its latest new-build, Viking Ocean Cruises announced it had placed an order with Fincanteiri ship builders for three additional sister ships.
The three new ships, which will be delivered in late 2017, 2018, and 2020 respectively, will bring the total number of vessels in the Viking Ocean stable to six.
The line’s first ocean vessel, the Viking Star, entered service in May of last year. Its next ship, the Viking Sky, will roll out next month and its third ship, the Viking Sea, will debut in early 2017.
Viking founder and chairman Torstein Hagen said that the Star has already seen “great success” in its maiden season. “I look forward to her five sister ships experiencing the same respective success as they debut over the coming years,” he said.
All Viking ships feature all-veranda staterooms, two pool choices, and the LivNordic Spa. Guests also receive complimentary beer and wine, free Wi-Fi, self-service laundry, and 24-hour room service.
