Ultra-low-cost-carrier Spirit Airlines is adding two new direct nonstop flights to Tulum to its 2024 schedule.
Starting March 28, 2024, Spirit will fly daily flights from Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando to Tulum’s new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport. The service will be the 26th route out of Ft. Lauderdale, and the 11th out of Orlando, for Spirit.
"Tulum is an increasingly popular choice for leisure travelers, and our direct flights from Florida will make a getaway to Mexico's enchanting coastline more accessible than ever, just in time for spring break," said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. "We have a long history of serving Mexico, and Tulum's new airport is a great addition that will make it easier for our Guests to get to the city and enjoy its beaches, history, and variety of unique experiences."
Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport has been in the works since March 2011. According to the airport, its construction is currently 65% complete as of Sept. 26, 2023. The airport is currently scheduled to operate its first flights in December 2023, giving Tulum travelers a different option than flying into Cancun International Airport and then getting ground transportation to Tulum.
The first carrier to announce flights out of the airport was Viva Aerobus, an airline that was recently joined by Delta Air Lines, which said it would also operate flights into Tulum starting March 28, 2024.
