Amtrak Orders More Trains to Meet Demand

Amtrak has added 10 more Amtrak Airo trains to its current order of 73 to meet the growing demand for rail travel in the United States.

The first of this new class of train is scheduled to debut in 2026. When they debut, the Airo trains will offer dedicated power, USB-C ports at every seat, along with seatback tablet and phone holders; enhanced leg room and adjustable headrests; dedicated water stations in each car; and 5G Wi-Fi.

Trains will also have a Café Car for grab-and-go service and an enhanced Business Class with more room, double and single seats, wider arm rests, footrests, and additional outlets.

“We are thrilled to satisfy the soaring demand for train travel with new state-of-the-art, American-made equipment that ensures the highest standards of comfort, service, and amenities,” said Amtrak president Roger Harris.

The trains will be deployed on the following routes: Northeast Regional, Empire Service, Virginia Services, Keystone Service, Downeaster, Cascades, Maple Leaf, New Haven/Springfield Service, Palmetto, Carolinian, Pennsylvanian, Vermonter, Ethan Allen Express, and Adirondack.
