To meet the demand for domestic travel ahead of summer, Intrepid Travel on Tuesday launched a range of 16 United States tours.
Since January, Intrepid Travel said it has seen a 45% month-over-month increase in website visits to its local tours from Americans. After releasing two domestic tours in late February 2021, Zion Ranch Stay and an Alaska adventure, each tours’ departures quickly sold-out and prompted the company to add more departures for each tour.
Now, the tour operator is adding more than a dozen new local-led, local-operated tours departing in May 2021.
With no more than 16 travelers per group, these entirely carbon-offset tours are designed to be “more immersive than sightseeing,” with sustainable experiences in partnership with Indigenous guides and operators, and partnering with fellow B Corporations.
On the new six-day New Mexico Discovery itinerary, travelers will learn about Indigenous American and Spanish influences on the area, visiting Native American art markets and 11,000-year-old ruins. They’ll also have the option to check-out fellow B-Corp business Meow Wolf.
The six-day Cycle Maine and Acadia National Park cycling tour across Maine takes guests to Acadia National Park with viewpoints from Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, and Eagle Lake, before returning downhill to charming Bar Harbor.
“In past years, our North American tours appealed to international travelers who wanted to explore a new country. During the pandemic, we had the opportunity to design domestic tours for American travelers, an entirely new business venture,” said Matt Berna, Intrepid Travel’s managing director in North America.
“Bringing Intrepid’s style of travel to America for American travelers means we can appropriately honor and support Indigenous experiences, support local businesses that are pursuing sustainable practices, and offer an entirely carbon-offset style of travel, including redefining an American road trip from four to two wheels on our Cycling tours.”
Intrepid Travel’s domestic product operates under its Safe Travel protocols developed and endorsed by the World Travel & Tourism Council. The tours operate under a Flexible Bookings policy, which allows travelers to change, move or cancel their domestic tour 30 days before departure, with no change fees.
