Air Canada Pilots Ratify Contract Agreement
by Sarah Milner /Air Canada’s pilots have voted to ratify a new four-year contract, ending the labor dispute with the Canadian airline.
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents more than 5,200 Air Canada pilots, shared the news today.
“This contract is the largest labour agreement in Air Canada’s history and reflects contributions that our pilots bring to the success of our airline,” said First Officer Charlene Hudy, chair of the Air Canada ALPA Master Executive Council (MEC). “We look forward to working under these improved pay rates and working conditions while continuing to connect our passengers to Canada, North America, and the world.”
Air Canada pilots voted in favor of strike action back in August. Flight disruptions were narrowly avoided when the airline and the union reached a tentative deal mere days before job action was expected to begin.
According to ALPA’s statement, 99% of eligible pilots cast votes, with 67% being in favor of the tentative agreement. The contract goes into effect immediately, and will expire Sept. 29, 2027.
“With its ambitious growth plans, Air Canada management is demonstrating its commitment to the pilots through this investment, highlighting the importance of our role in the airline’s continued success,” said Hudy.
