Breeze Airways, the low-cost carrier founded by JetBlue founder David Neeleman, has chosen Ohio’s Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) as its newest crew base.
Starting this summer, Breeze will establish its 11th crew base in Akron, with more than 60 pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance workers based there over the next three years. In addition to housing crew, Breeze will use Akron as an overnight base for its aircraft.
“The Akron-Canton community continues to show high demand for Breeze’s premium, convenient service, so establishing a base in the community is a natural fit,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO. “We are grateful for the incredible support of our partners at JobsOhio, Team NEO, and the Akron-Canton Airport as we continue to invest in Breeze’s future growth at CAK.”
Breeze currently operates 10 nonstop routes from Akron, including service to Charleston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Los Angeles, and Raleigh. It began serving the airport in 2021, the same year it launched as an airline. The company’s corporate headquarters is in Utah.
The airline markets itself as a consumer-centric, low-cost carrier with policies designed to benefit travelers, including no change or cancellation fees, free family seating, and up to 24 months of reusable flight credit.
In addition to Akron, Breeze also operates flights from several other smaller airports, including Long Island’s Islip MacArthur Airport (ISP), Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport (PVD), and Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). It operates a fleet of new Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
