Delta Air Lines’ tenure in Binghamton is coming to an end.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced this week that Delta, the only commercial airline currently operating out of Binghamton, will drop flights from Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) starting Feb. 14. Starting then, no commercial airlines will fly from the airport.
The airport’s commissioner of aviation, Mark Heefner, said in a statement that Delta’s decision was due to “factors outside the control” of the airport and that he hopes to continue working with Delta to re-establish passenger service “as soon as possible.”
Service out of Binghamton has dwindled over the last few years. Delta currently operates only one daily route from the city to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), where passengers connect to other destinations. Other carriers, including Avelo Airlines, which exited Binghamton in 2024, have long since pulled out of the city, despite a multi-million dollar renovated planned since late 2022.
The hope for airport officials is that even if Delta doesn’t return, they are able to bring other airline partners into the airport.
Delta said it will rebook all passengers scheduled for travel through Binghamton after the Feb. 14 service termination.
