Global Entry Signups, Renewals Delayed Until Sept. 8

The reopening of Trusted Traveler enrollment centers, which handles Global Entry memberships, has once again been delayed.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced earlier this week that they will remain closed through at least Sept. 8, 2020, after previously scheduled to reopen on Aug. 19.

“The decision was made in consultation with CBP health and safety experts who continue to monitor the increase in COVID-19 cases across the United States,” the agency said in a statement, adding that “CBP’s highest priority is to ensure the health, safety and security of the American people.”

The Trusted Travel Programs also includes Nexus, which allows expedited entry to the U.S. from Canada, and Sentri, which allows expedited entry to the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.

CBP has further extended the period of time that applicants have to complete the enrollment process to 545 days from the date that CBP conditionally approves applications to complete the enrollment process. CBP will extend the Trusted Traveler benefits of members who apply for renewal for up to 18 months, before their current membership expires.

The Enrollment on Arrival program will remain operational, which is the best option for conditionally approved Global Entry applicants to complete the enrollment process without pre-scheduling an interview at an enrollment center.
