Travel + Leisure Debuts T+L Journeys
Travel and Leisure has joined the ranks of travel publications selling trips directly to consumers. The magazine, which is owned by Time Inc., partnered with U.K.-based luxury travel agency Black Tomato to offer a set of 20 itineraries directly to readers. Travel + Leisure’s main competition in the consumer market—Conde Nast Traveler and National Geographic Traveler—both offer similar direct-to-consumer trips and the move shows T+L’s desire to start making money outside of its editorial and advertising departments. According to Black Tomato, Travel + Leisure’s October issue will feature Morocco’s Erg Chebb sand dunes, one of the destinations of the new T+L Journeys, and 13-pages dedicated to the new tours.
