Curacao Adds On-Island Antigen Test Requirement for Visitors

Curaçao has added an on-island antigen test to its entry requirements.

The additional protocol went into effect on April 20 for travelers arriving from high-risk countries, including the United States, who have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last six months. They will be required to take an antigen test at a local lab on the third day of their stay.

Travelers typically receive their results within 20 minutes to one hour, on average. If a traveler tests negative, they can go about their stay. If they test positive after taking the antigen test, they will need to quarantine per local guidelines.

As every traveler is required to have health/medical insurance (even just trip-specific travel insurance), their insurance would need to kick in to cover any COVID-19 related expenses. Travelers will need to wait until they get their tests before departing. As the US requires a negative test before flying back home, this requirement satisfies both local and CDC guidelines.

The measure comes as the island focuses on “decreasing the number of COVID-19 cases on the island.”

This is in addition to the mandatory PCR test for travelers required to have been taken within 72 hours before arriving on the island.

All travelers to Curaçao need to complete the registration process on dicardcuracao.com. Making an appointment in advance for the on-island antigen test is part of the process. Travelers can choose between several local laboratories.
