Atlas Ocean Voyages has unveiled the next evolution of its luxury expedition fleet with the announcement of Atlas Adventurer, a 400-passenger sailing yacht featuring hybrid propulsion and solid sails.
“This new Atlas-class sailing yacht represents the next step in our growth,” said James A. Rodriguez, president and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages, at an intimate gathering of travel partners and media at New York City’s famed Explorer’s Club.
Atlas Adventurer, he added, represents a “milestone in a company’s journey when experience, momentum, and vision come together propelling us forward as we take the next step.”
“It allows us to expand our destination footprint into regions our guests have been asking us for, while further solidifying Atlas’ position within the luxury expedition cruise category.
Nearly twice the size of the rest of its fleetmates, Atlas Adventurer will introduce a significantly expanded onboard experience, including all-suite accommodations across every category, increased space and amenities, and a broader range of dining, wellness, and social offerings.
Atlas Adventurer will feature seven dining venues, featuring specialty restaurants and a new culinary studio for hands-on learning and destination-inspired programming. It will also have five cocktail lounges and cocktail bar social spaces, along with two outdoor bars.
There will also be an expanded fitness and wellness center, a large swimming pool, and purpose-built expedition capabilities, including Zodiacs, motorboats, and a marina platform with an ocean pool for water-based exploration. The ocean pool with have underwater walls to protect swimmers from jellyfish and other harmful marine animals.
“As our brand continues to evolve, this vessel is a powerful expansion of where we are headed: thoughtful growth, intentional design, and deeper global exploration,” Rodriguez said.
Atlas Adventurer will debut in late 2028 with an in-depth exploration of destinations across Asia, including Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. This will be followed by itineraries exploring the African continent including the Seychelles, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa. The ship will then reposition to the Mediterranean.
The newbuild order, with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, is for up to four vessels of the same class. “We’ll build them as fast as we book them,” joked Mario Ferreira, chairman, founder, and owner of Mystic Invest Holding, Atlas’ parent company.
High-Tech, Sustainable Design
In keeping with the line’s focus on sustainability, Atlas Adventurer features advanced marine systems, dual-fuel engines and electric-hybrid propulsion (featuring a nine-megawatt marine battery system), and is equipped with three carbon masts and solid sails. When conditions at sea and the wind permit, these elements combine to enhance operational efficiency and enable zero-emission cruising.
Engineered for both polar and warm water cruising, the 26,000-gross-ton, 690-foot-long sailing yacht is equipped with zero-speed stabilizers, two vertical fin stabilizers, a reinforced hull, and Ice Class 1B (Polar Category C) capability.
“With Atlas Adventurer, we are introducing a new generation of luxury expedition sailing yachts,” Ferreira said. This vessel serves as a bridge between the wind mastery of the 15th century and the solid sails and electric propulsion of the 21st century. The yacht is designed to comply with future zero-emission port regulations and can navigate silently, allowing access to some of the most exclusive and restricted small ports around the world.”
Additional details of Atlas Adventurer, including suite specifics, onboard experiences dining concepts, and day-by-day itineraries, will be announced in the coming months.
Early Access Priority reservations are now open. Travel advisors can secure their clients’ place on an inaugural season voyage with a $2,000 deposit.
Recent Rebranding
Atlas paved the way for this week’s new ship announcement with a re-branding last week that Rodriguez said is aspirational, emotional, compelling, and enduring.
“As our yachts, destinations, and onboard experiences have evolved it became clear that our brand needed to evolve as well. Not to change who we are but to more clearly express it… At the heart of this evolution is our elevated positioning. At Atlas Ocean Voyages, boutique hospitality turns expeditions into an experience… This evolution represents more than a visual change. It reflects the confidence of a brand that knows who it is and where it’s going.”
