Less than two years after joining Four Seasons Yachts as the inaugural captain of Four Season I, Captain Kate McCue is departing the company and taking a break from the cruise industry for a while.
Captain Kate rose to fame for the Instagram antics of her beloved sphynx cat Bug Naked (not to mention being the first female captain for Celebrity Cruises). After Bug died suddenly in late 2024, she left Celebrity and joined Four Seasons Yachts shortly after.
“Life, in general, over the last couple of months has taken an unexpected turn,” she said in a Facebook post, explaining how she unexpectedly lost her mother this past June.
“I realized that I’d spent the majority of the last year away from home… After 30 years at sea, delivering two new vessels, launching a new brand with a prototype vessel, and sailing as captain for the last 11 years, I don’t feel like I have to prove anything to anyone.”
“I’ve made the decision to resign from Four Seasons Yachts and begin a new chapter.”
Her new chapter makes her family a priority – including spending time helping her dad check off items from his bucket list, which, she added, includes cruising on “different types of vessels.”
While she plans to spend her foreseeable future away from the industry, she said she is keeping her captain’s license active.
“Sailing again is absolutely not off the table.”
