With Canada opening its ports to cruise ships for the first time in two years, Princess Cruises and Cunard have released their much anticipated Alaska itineraries for this summer.

“The reopening of Canadian ports to the cruise industry is a bold and important move that significantly expands the array of travel opportunities available to guests while boosting the economies of the Canadian and Alaska destinations we visit by generating important revenue and job opportunities,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. “We know firsthand how cherished these voyages are to both guests and those destinations following our shortened but successful return to Alaska in 2021 that was made possible with the passing of the Alaska Tourism Restoration Act.”

Princess
Princess’ summer Alaska season will feature six ships, including the line’s newest vessel, Discovery Princess. Itineraries include 12 unique offerings, totaling 140 departures and five glacier-viewing experiences. Plus, more than 20 cruisetour options take cruisers to Denali National Park.

For the May through September 2022 season, four west coast homeports are available: Seattle, Vancouver, Anchorage (Whittier) and San Francisco.

Some of the options include:

  • Seven-day Inside Passage from Seattle (Discovery Princess, Crown Princess): Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria, with scenic cruising inside Glacier Bay National Park OR Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria with scenic cruising past Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier
  • Seven-day Seattle to Vancouver (Discovery Princess): Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, with scenic cruising past Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier
  • Seven-day Vancouver to Seattle (Discovery Princess): Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan, with scenic cruising past Hubbard Glacier

  • 7-day Voyage of the Glaciers from Vancouver to Whittier or vice versa (Grand Princess): Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, with scenic cruising inside Glacier Bay National Park and College Fjord

Cunard
Cunard, which only returned to Alaska cruising in 2019, finally gets back to the region with a short season of voyages through July aboard Queen Elizabeth. The season starts with a coastal transit from Los Angeles to Vancouver on May 30, arriving on June 4, with Alaska cruises starting the next day.

“Amidst the myriad choices, Cunard’s signature voyage offering, in tandem with the wild frontier of Alaska, is uniquely captivating and distinctive in many ways,” said Jamie Paiko, vice president of sales for Cunard North America. “Guests enjoy the line’s hallmark experiences and amenities in a large ship environment but with fewer guests on ships of her size. And this year we are excited to debut our new ‘Ice White Ball’ with ‘Taste of Alaska’ Gala dining menu.”

Highlights of the journey include enrichment programs from adventurers like Kenton Cool, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Felicity Aston and Peter Hillary.

All itineraries sail roundtrip from Vancouver. Itinerary options include:

  • 7-night with stops in Icy Strait Point, Sitka and Ketchikan, and scenic sailing inside Glacier Bay National Park
  • 7-night with stops in Sitka, Juneau and Ketchikan, and scenic sailing inside Glacier Bay National Park
