Symphony Of The Seas Update

by Donna Tunney  March 16, 2017

TMR
‘s readers (and reporters) have been hankering for details about Royal Caribbean’s new Symphony of the Seas, the new-build due to start sailing in April 2018. And yet, the company has been holding details close to the vest for the past few months, telling TMR only that design and amenity features would be revealed soon. Now some information is starting to trickle out.

What we know so far: The 18-deck ship, at 230,000 gross registered tons (Allure of the Seas weighs 225,282 grt) and 1,188 feet long, will claim the title of largest cruise ship in the world. Symphony will have 2,775 staterooms carrying up to 6,780 guests. Royal Carribbean says it will offer the most ocean-view cabins of any ship. It will offer 20 dining venues and five pools, all staffed with lifeguards. (Royal Caribbean plans to have lifeguards on all ships eventually; currently only Disney Cruise Line has them.)

Symphony of the Seas will follow the Oasis-class design of seven neighborhoods, and feature the Aqua Theater and the Bionic Bar. There will be one big new attraction—yet to be revealed. Royal executives told Orlando Weekly that it will provide “a new scale of daring.”

The ship will debut in the Mediterranean and then homeport in Miami in the fall of 2018.

Stay tuned for more.
