‘The Humble Travel Agent Is Making A Comeback,’ Says NBC News

by Cheryl Rosen  December 08, 2016

Little by little, the major news outlets are coming upon the story we all know to be true: Travel agents are in a growth mode.

From time-strapped Millennials to web surfers who have been burned once too often, consumers are discovering that “without a travel agent you really are on your own,” as the ASTA slogan says. And increasingly, they are telling the story to the reporters they meet.

The latest tale was told this week by NBC news, in a story titled “Online Booking Is So 90s: The Humble Travel Agent Is Making A Comeback.”

It quotes two frequent travelers and three travel agents—Sherri Doyle, owner of Pacific Northwest Journeys; Grayce Walters, a travel agent with Maupin Travel; and Ovation Travel luxury leisure travel consultant Jack Ezon all agreeing that a knowledgeable travel agent is a far superior alternative to the overload of online information. And it cites a Travel Market Report story on MMGY’s Portrait of American Travelers survey, that found that “the higher the ticket price of the travel being purchased, the more likely they were to turn to a professional travel advisor.”

“If anything, a good travel counselor is more relevant today than ever before,” the story notes.

And we couldn’t agree more!
