TMR Unplugged: Real Talk With National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions’ Gaby
As spring slowly begins to arrive, TMR sat down with one of National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions’ expedition leaders, Gaby Bohorquez. She shares why travel still inspires her, what makes leading explorers so rewarding, and why Indonesia remains her ultimate dream destination. Let’s unplug with Gaby:
What inspired you to work in the travel industry?
It was the dream of seeing for myself those beautiful, far-away places I have so much read about in books and travel magazines.
What is your favorite travel related book or movie?
“The Voyage of the Beagle”, where Charles Darwin records an amazing journey of unfamiliar places and encounters with indigenous peoples and traditions, while later these observations would reshape science!
What is your favorite destination?
I love Italy, its history, architecture and food!
What part of your job makes you smile the most?
Watching the Galapagos sea lion pups play with each other without a care in the world.
What is your favorite restaurant or food item/drink on the menu?
I find the “Tres-leches” dessert made on board hard to resist!
What is your favorite childhood memory from a vacation that you took?
The sea breeze touching my cheeks while playing in the tide pools with my siblings and cousin by the sea near my birthtown.
What’s your dream travel destination, and why?
Raja Ampat in Indonesia, I would love to snorkel there.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know….
I love papercraft! I am passionate about miniature replicas of flowers and scenes I encounter in my job.
What is your favorite amenity?
The sauna at the end of the day… I find it relaxing.
What’s a common mistake that travelers make, and how can they avoid it?
To consider a place just one more ticked box. Researching about places you travel adds so much more value to it!
