Viking Ocean Cruises this week announced that it will add a seventh cruise ship to its fleet in early 2021.

Accommodating 930 guests, the ship, called Viking Venus, will be the same size as Viking’s other ocean cruise ships. It is expected to debut in Scandinavia and Northern Europe in 2021, sailing itineraries such as “British Isles Explorer,” “In Search of the Northern Lights,” “Viking Homelands,” and “Into the Midnight Sun.”

The ship is another step in Viking’s planned growth to operate 16 ocean cruise ships. Last year, Viking added six more ships to its ongoing orders with Fincantieri, which the shipyard said was the largest order from a single owner.

All of the ships, including Venus, will follow the blueprint that Viking Ocean has used with its previous builds. Aside from the 930-guest capacity, the ships will also have all-veranda ocean staterooms in 465 total cabins. But the ships will also be unique to each other, with things like the 26-seater Planetarium on Viking Jupiter, the latest Viking new-build that hit the water earlier this year.

Viking Venus will join Viking Tellus, which the line announced last year, as the two new Viking ships debuting in 2021.

The cruise line this week also announced that its Mediterranean sailings will expand in 2021, with Viking Sky, which debuted in 2017, sailing a new eight-day “Ancient Mediterranean Treasures” itinerary between Athens and Istanbul that includes overnights in both cities.
