Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit is reaching for the luxury market with the addition of six upscale hotels by 2018.
Construction on the One&Only Mandarina resort kicked off last week. It will be home to 145 villas, a swimming pool with private cabanas, a spa, fitness center, shops, and private-resident estates. It will join the brand’s only other property in Mexico, the Palmilla in Los Cabos.
One of the country’s largest luxury development, Costa Canuva, also is coming to life, with five luxury hotels (including a 250-room Fairmont), mountain biking and cycling trails, restaurants, a marina, and more than 2,500 residential units. A golf course is being co-designed by Hall of Famer Greg Norman and retired LPGA star Lorena Ochoa, also scheduled to be completed in 2018.
All the plans are eco-tourism focused, geared toward maintaining Nayarit’s natural resources.
