New Online Training for Agents Covers the ABCs of Medical Travel

by Nick Verrastro  March 10, 2011

An online training program about medical travel aimed at travel agents and other travel professionals is about to be launched by Medical Tourism Training Inc.

The introductory training program, one of the first of its kind, encompasses five courses.

“These online courses are the backbone essentials of the practice of medical travel,” medical travel expert Irving Stackpole, an instructor at Medical Tourism Training, told Travel Market Report.

Elizabeth Ziemba

Medical Tourism Training, based in Brookline, Mass., expects to launch the training the week of March 14, according to president Elizabeth Ziemba.

The five courses are:

– Introduction to Medical Tourism. Focuses on five fundamental areas necessary to a basic understanding of medical tourism: its definition and history, factors driving growth, major countries involved in health travel, the services offered in those countries, and current issues.

– Basic Medical Terminology. Covers more than 225 words related to medicine and medical tourism.

– Telephone Skills for the Medical Tourism Professional.  Provides practical advice and audio and video clips demonstrating the do’s and don’ts  of telephone etiquette, and covers how to manage phone interactions professionally to create positive impressions.

– Email Etiquette – Netiquette. Contains no-nonsense advice, audio clips demonstrating the do’s and don’ts  of email etiquette, and email communication skills for delivering improved customer service.

– Essential Skills for Working With Upset Customers. Covers the tools essential for avoiding or defusing negative situations and restoring business relationships following a harmful experience with upset customers.

The online courses, which are self-directed, are provided in a PowerPoint format with an audio narrative. Practical examples and quizzes are designed to increase learning and retention.

Each course also contains a final knowledge check, a course summary and a certificate of completion, Ziemba said.

The fee for one course is $79; there is a discount for enrolling in more than one course.

Registration will be online at Medical Tourism Training’s website.
