Consumers See Hawaii as Ideal for Wellness Trips

April 07, 2014

Hawaii, Italy and Arizona are perceived by wellness-minded consumers to be the world’s top three destination for wellness travel, according to a recent survey. The independent poll asked readers of the publication Travel to Wellness to name their top destination choice for a wellness vacation. Hawaii earned the highest number of votes among the 1,776 readers who responded. Nature was the predominant factor cited by readers in their choice of destinations.

Other destinations named by readers as their top choice for a wellness vacation were, in descending order, Italy, Arizona, Bali, Costa Rica, British Columbia, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and California. More than half cited a destination’s natural beauty and attributes such as its mountains, oceans and beaches as the reasons for their choice. Among other reasons cited in their choices were: “peace and quiet” (11%), spas (7%), culture (6%) and yoga (3%).

“As an increasing number of destinations around the world work to position themselves as wellness destinations, consumer perception is key,” said Anne Dimon, founder and editor-in-chief of Toronto-based Travel to Wellness, which conducted the poll in partnership with New York-based Well-Being Travel.
