Auto Europe Helps Travelers Avoid Italian City Driving Zone Fines
by Richard D'AmbrosioAuto Europe has created a web page detailing the driving zone restrictions key Italian tourist destinations impose on drivers.
The easy-to-use web page covers Rome, Florence, Milan and Pisa, providing detailed descriptions of the Zona Traffico Limitato (Limited Traffic Zones). Most historic Italian city centers, like Florence, have set up ZTL’s to reduce overall congestion, help slow the degradation of monuments and buildings due to smog, and ease visitor strain.
In most circumstances tourists and non-local visitors are not issued passes; only locals are permitted to drive through these zones. Drivers who enter a ZTL without proper authorization will be fined, (on average about 65 EUR or about $71 in current U.S. dollars). Vacationers also would be charged a “Traffic Violation Fee” (usually around 25 EUR) by car rental suppliers on top of the municipality fine.
