Apple Vacations President Tim Mullen is planning to retire from his position at the end of 2018, the company announced on Thursday night.

Apple has started an internal search to fill his position and Mullen will stay on until the end of the year to help with the transition.

“I’ve been blessed and am thrilled to have been a part of one of the most successful travel companies in the world.  I will miss my colleagues, travel agents and supplier partners many of whom I see as close friends. With the new ALG leadership team in place, the timing of my decision seems right and I look forward to continuing to work with Apple to help ensure a smooth transition,” Mullen said in a statement.

Executive vice president of Apple Leisure Group and Vacations president Lynn Torrent said, “We will miss his resourcefulness, amazing charisma, and his role as a leader and mentor to so many employees. His creativity and willingness to experiment and stay flexible were essential in preparing for rapidly changing business environments.

“Tim has been instrumental in building not only a successful and admired brand, but also integral to the birth and success of the Apple Leisure Group,” she said.

The 58-year-old Mullen had served as the president of Apple since January 2015 after working as co-president for more than 25 years prior. Before that he served as president and CEO of Travel Impressions and American Express Vacations.

Mullen is the son of John Mullen, who founded the business that eventually became Apple Leisure Group in 1969. He’s also the brother of Apple Leisure Group’s COO of distribution, Jeff Mullen, and the brother in law of the Group’s CEO, Alex Zozaya.
