Travel agencies will earn royalties and potential new customers from sales of suppliers’ exclusive daily deals under a new American Marketing Group program for licensees. In an agreement with Analog Analytics, value-add offers will be delivered via online media to as many as 50 million consumers daily.

Travel professionals responded with anger when President Obama suggested last week that the Internet had made travel agents obsolete. But many also seized the opportunity as a teachable moment. “It’s the role of all of us, whether individual agents or consortiums, to counter that myth,” said Libbie Rice of Ensemble Travel Group.
