The debut Australia property from AC Hotels by Marriott has officially opened in Melbourne.

AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank opened its doors on Thursday, the first of AC Hotels’ 195 properties to operate in Australia.

The hotel is located in Melbourne’s Southbank district, just a short walk from the city’s Central Business District and South Wharf percent, and with close proximity to South Melbourne Market, the Melbourne Convention Centre, South Wharf shops, the Arts precinct, and more.

In total, the hotel will offer 205 rooms and suites, many of which provide views of Melbourne’s saline and the Yarra River. All the rooms have the signature AC Hotels touches, including modern decor and an open layout.

For dining, the new property will offer a number of on-site options—Sorolla, an open kitchen breakfast eatery; Triana Bay, a long, freestanding bar; and Bar de Buceo; the hotel’s pool bar, are all open onsite.

Other amenities include an outdoor, infinity-edge swimming pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and 6,200 sq. ft. of meeting space.

"I am truly delighted to open the first AC Hotel in Australia," commented Harry Singh, General Manager of AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank. "Working in collaboration with DKO, we have brought to life the core elements of the AC design philosophy – every detail of the experience is meticulously over-thought to create a seamless stay, right in the heart of the city known as the design capital of Australia.”

The hotel is one of many that Marriott is opening in Asia Pacific in 2022, a year that will see the company open its 1000th overall property in the region.

Aside from AC Hotels by Marriott Melbourne Southbank, the new hotels include the JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa in Jeju, South Korea, opening in May 2022, and the W Sydney, the third W Hotel in Australia, opening in late 2022. Marriott also expects to add two Westin Hotels in Yokohama and Cam Ranh, further strengthening its presence not only in Asia Pacific but also in the wellness space.
