Hundreds of Flights Cancelled Friday Due to Strike at Four German Airportsby Daniel McCarthy /
There’s another round of significant flight disruptions due to union action in Germany on Friday.
Verdi, the second largest trade union in Germany whose membership includes workers at German airports, called for its members working on security and ground handling in Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Stuttgart, and Baden-Baden to strike over pay on Friday.
The strikes have caused hundreds of flight cancellations at those airports and each one is dealing with the action differently.
Stuttgart Airport proactively canceled all of its flights, both departures and arrivals, earlier in the week. Düsseldorf Airport, on the other hand, is operating with a reduced flight schedule.
According to FlightAware, the cancellations amount to a few hundred flights, including 70 flights at Cologne Bonn.
All travelers scheduled to fly through any of those airports should check with their airline or tour operator ahead of time to find out about any potential impact.
