Princess Cruises Sets Schedule for WiFi Upgrade on Six More Ships

Princess Cruises will add its MedallionNet WiFi, which it dubs as the best WiFi at sea, to six more ships because of surging demand from guests, the cruise line announced this week. 

The rollout will start with Coral Princess on Apr. 5, Island Princess on May 15, Crown Princess on June 20, Emerald Princess on Aug. 3, Sky Princess on Oct. 12, and Golden Princess on Dec. 20. Those ships will join Caribbean Princess, Regal Princess, Royal Princess, and Ruby Princess.

“While many sail with us to disconnect from their digital life, we realize that offering land-like connectivity from anywhere on the ship is something guests value, so that they have the option to stream movies, music, sports or video chat, and share their amazing vacation experience as much or as little as they’d like,” President Jan Swartz said in a statement.

Also on tap for Princess is the expansion of its MedallionClass experience. The OceanMedallion, a piece of wearable technology that Princess introduced last year, holds a guest’s information so that crew members can identify them during the sailing. The technology allows guests to open their cabin, make payments, and embark and disembark, all through a small pendant that can be worn on a wristband, a necklace, or kept in a pocket.

That technology will be added to Royal Princess on Apr. 13, Crown Princess on July 24, and Sky Princess on Oct. 12.
