New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport Terminal 1, which serves a number of international carriers, will remain closed through Friday, Feb. 17 due to electrical issues at the airport.
“JFK Terminal 1 will remain closed on 2/17 due to electrical issues as the Port Authority continues working with the terminal’s operator to restore flight operations as quickly as possible. Travelers should check with their carriers for flight status before coming to the airport,” the airport said in an announcement on Friday morning.
There’s no word on what specifically the electrical issue is, or when it will be fully resolved, but the issue is affecting the terminal’s ability to accept inbound and outbound flights. Some flights are being diverted to other terminals, and other local airports, while others are being canceled.
According to FlightAware, about 2% of all JFK’s departures, and another 1% of its arrivals, have been canceled, with more expected on Friday. Travelers are being told to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.
Terminal 1 includes a number of major international carriers, such as Aeromexico, Air France, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korea Air, and more.
