The Most Popular Cities for Canadian Travelers This Summer

Skyscanner’s latest report reveals the five most popular summer travel destinations that Canadians are flocking to in June, July, and August 2024.

Based on user data, the top cities for summer travel in 2024 are Calgary (Canada), London (England), Los Angeles (United States), Seoul (South Korea), and Tunis (Tunisia). Skyscanner collected data from its platforms in January and February for bookings in June, July, and August 2024.

According to Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s travel trends and destinations expert, the famous Calgary Stampede (July 5 to 14) is drawing people to Alberta this summer.

London and LA are common tourist destinations for Canadians, but the high interest for Seoul and Tunis points to a new trend for Canada’s travelers. Shopping and food are likely driving interest in Seoul, while Tunis offers a mix of history and beautiful Mediterranean beaches, Lindsay theorized.

Currently, Tunisia is experiencing a tourism revival. Approximately 8.5 million tourists are expected this year—a significant increase from 2023’s 6.4 million, and 90% of pre-pandemic levels (9.4 million in 2019).

“I love seeing such a wide range of travel destinations from Canadians,” said Lindsay. “With a mix of domestic and international travel in the top five for summer, there’s a guaranteed spot for foodies, adventurers, and those looking for relaxation, trends we know are increasingly on the rise.”

In late March, Skyscanner released a Horizons report for Canadian travel outlook for 2024, which found that Canadians across the board are booking further out, and are showing interest in discovering new locations.

“While traditional seasonality is returning and popular destinations remain in demand, travelers are also seeking value and exploring options closer-to-home,” said Zeynep Mutlu Bigali, head of destination partnerships.

Skyscanner also observed “record travel demand” at the start of the year, which is likely to continue through to the summer.
