New Opening: Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel
by Daniel McCarthy /Marriott this week celebrated the opening of another New York City hotel, this one from its Renaissance brand, the Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of Harlem on the site of the neighborhood’s Victoria Theater on 125th Street, not far from the iconic Apollo Theater and a short walk to Central Park. The hotel preserved the Victoria Theater’s out façade, marquee, outdoor ticket booth, and staircase in its entrance.
The hotel adds 211 guest rooms and suites to the neighborhood along with 9,000-plus sq. ft. of event space. The rooms are mixed between single rooms (107 rooms), double rooms (101), and three suites, some of which include views of Harlem and Central Park.
Renaissance New York Harlem also boasts The Victoria, a restaurant that Marriott hopes to become a neighborhood hotspot. The restaurant, which Silk Hospitality Group operates, features a menu from Executive Chef Bobby Bouyer that includes shrimp and grits, a hot chicken sandwich, pepper pot beef brisket, and some other small plate offerings.
“We are thrilled to announce the opening of Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel, a project that not only aims to revitalize the neighborhood but also honor the cultural legacy of the Harlem Renaissance,” said Lewiston Murray, General Manager, of Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel.
“Our vision is to create an inviting space for the community and guests alike to experience Harlem in its fullness through unexpected dining, celebratory beverage rituals, jazz performances, original artwork, and more.”
The hotel is Renaissance’s fifth New York City property joining Renaissance New York Midtown, Renaissance New York Times Square, Renaissance New York Chelsea, and Renaissance New York Flushing in Queens.
In total, the brand has 170 properties in nearly 40 countries worldwide. The brand was founded as Ramada Renaissance in 1981 and opened its first hotel in Aurora, Colo.
