Tauck Adds Oberammergau to Swiss Highlands Itinerary for 2022
by Daniel McCarthy /Clients who were disappointed that 2020’s Oberammergau Passion Play didn’t take place because of COVID-19 will have a chance to make up for lost time this year.
Tauck is offering a performance of the Passion Play in Oberammergau during its eight-day Swiss and Bavarian Alps itinerary that will run from May to September this year.
The play, which has been performed every 10 years since 1680, was driving heavy consumer interest in the lead-up to the 2020 performance before the COVID-19 pandemic for its delay. Now, Tauck, and other tour operators, are getting set for this year’s re-scheduled set of performances.
“After a two-year wait, we’re so excited to showcase the wonder and pageantry of the Passion Play to our guests,” said Tauck’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeremy Palmer.
“The Passion Play was first inspired by a pandemic, which certainly brings an extra level of meaning and poignancy to the performances our guests will experience later this year.”
Tauck’s tour starts in Zurich and brings guests through the Swiss and Bavarian alps to Oberammergau and then to Dachau and Munich, where the tour will wrap up.
Along the way, they will have the opportunity to see the one-time home of Albert Einstein and the Einstein Museum inside Switzerland’s Bern Historical museum, a meeting with members of the Habsburg family at the family’s castle, a visit to the picturesque alpine village of Appenzell, and more.
The performance in Oberammergau includes Category 1 seating for guests, the “best-available” seating for guests.
Pricing for the tour includes airfare and includes all accommodations, sightseeing, excursions, and performances, admission to all attractions, luggage handling, most meals and gratuities, and more.
