Air Canada Officially Launches Montreal to Amsterdam Service
by Daniel McCarthy /Air Canada’s much-anticipated Montreal to Amsterdam service is officially operating.
The carrier completed its inaugural Montreal to Amsterdam flights last week, the second of its routes between Canada and Amsterdam after its year-round service from Toronto. Air Canada will now operate the flight on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner five times a week through summer 2023 with three classes of service—Signature Class with lie-flat pods, Premium Economy, and Economy.
It will operate the service through October 15, 2023.
Aside from the service expansion, the flights also mark another step for Air Canada towards goals it set out in its Climate Action Plan—some of its flights at Amsterdam Schiphol will use Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel, which it says could reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% over the fuel’s life cycle, compared to conventional jet fuel.
“We are thrilled to launch our new, non-stop service between Amsterdam and Montreal for summer 2023, which complements our year-round flights between the Dutch capital and Toronto,” said Michael Rousseau, President and Chief Executive Officer at Air Canada.
“The start of our flights between Montreal and Amsterdam also marks our first SAF supply in Europe and demonstrates the value of this proven technology. Along with the entire Canadian aviation industry, we believe Canada should invest in SAF production and call upon government and other stakeholders to make this a priority,” he added.
