Just in time for the summer beach season, American Airlines will offer seasonal service beginning June 5 next year—for the first time ever—to Hyannis, Massachusetts (HYA), with daily service from New York La Guardia Airport (LGA) and Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA).

American will be the only global network carrier serving the airport, connecting more than 80 destinations across North America with one stop to Cape Cod.

“We are thrilled to add Hyannis to our global network for the first time, giving customers more ways to enjoy the charm of Cape Cod and all it has to offer,” said Joe Sottile, American Airlines Director of Domestic Network Planning.

American will operate two daily flights at HYA next summer: Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) to Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) will operate from June 22 to September 3 and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) will operate June 5 to September 3. Tickets will go on sale beginning Monday, October 23.

Welcome news for Cape Cod tourism
“Making the Cape more accessible to travelers from D.C. and New York City is great news for Cape Cod businesses,” says John McCarthy, owner, of Pelham House Resort in Dennis Port. “We are looking forward to welcoming more guests from those markets to the Pelham House Resort and our sister properties next summer with these easy D.C. and N.Y.C. flight options.”

Alton Chun, Regional Managing Director of Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in Harwich also welcomes the news. “American Airlines’ decision to expand its services to Cape Cod next year will have a large impact on the community as hospitality and tourism are a vital part of the local economy,” he said. “It’s rewarding to see a major airline recognize the opportunity that exists on the Cape as a tourism destination, and it follows the same trend we have felt at Wequassett as we transitioned from a seasonal resort to a year-round operation earlier this year. We look forward to welcoming more travelers to discover all that the Cape has to offer.”

East coast expansion
In addition, American will also add service to five cities along the Northeastern coast from LaGuardia Airport, including operating the only service from the airport to Halifax, Canada (YHZ). The additional cities include Bangor, Maine (BGR), Portland, Maine (PWM), Martha’s Vineyard (MVY), and Nantucket (ACK).

The airlines’ expansion grows American’s network from New York City to 75 nonstop destinations. The airline will also offer 20-plus daily departures from Maine to six gateways across the U.S.
