Lower Airfares in N. America Seen for 2014
The price of air travel in North America is expected to drop in 2014, according to American Express Global Business Travel. The firm’s 10th Business Travel Forecast cites competition from low-cost carriers, stricter corporate travel policies and “challenging unemployment levels” as key factors driving down airfares in North America. But American Express tempered its good news, saying that downward pressures on airfares could be offset by “pending consolidation among major U.S. airlines,” a reference to the proposed merger of American Airlines and US Airways.
