Universal Orlando Closing Volcano Bay on Select Weekdays
by Jessica Montevago
Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay will be closed two days a week, as the park continues to scale back operations.
The water park will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 8. Universal said the decision for the schedule change was based on “operational needs and fall travel trends.”
Most recently, Universal Orlando temporarily closed two resort hotels — the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort and Aventura Hotel — along with several attractions at both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, including A Day in the Park with Barney, Fast & Furious: Supercharged, Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl and Fear Factor Live at Universal Studios Florida and Poseidon’s Fury and Storm Force Accelatron at Islands of Adventure.
After reopening in June, Universal Orlando also reduced its hours by early August. Universal Studios Florida is now open from 9 am to 5 pm each day, while Islands of Adventure is open from 10 am to 6 pm. The parks had been operating from 9 am to 6 pm.
Florida’s booming parks have taken a hit since the coronavirus shuttered their gates for the longest period in history, and even with capacity limits in place, are reporting very low crowds.
Comcast reported revenue for the theme parks division plunged 94% in the quarter. The division generated $87 million, which was down significantly from $1.46 billion it generated during the same period last year.
