Hamilton International Airport Unveils New Jet-Bridges; a First for Airport
by Marsha Mowers
John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is gearing up for the winter season with the installation of passenger jet bridges—a first for the airport.
This long-anticipated infrastructure upgrade will offer travellers direct, weather-protected boarding and deplaning from the terminal to the aircraft, enhancing comfort and convenience during peak travel months.
The addition of jet bridges marks the latest milestone in Hamilton International’s broader terminal modernization initiative. In June, the airport officially unveiled a refreshed passenger terminal building, which includes an expanded exterior frontage with updated landscaping and a striking new “YHM” sign to welcome travellers.
Inside the terminal, improvements to the check-in, baggage claim, and departure gate areas have been designed to create a more seamless and spacious experience. Modern finishes and architectural features inspired by the local landscape lend a distinctly regional identity to the space, while new digital signage and upgraded lighting contribute to a smoother overall journey.
“We are excited to announce an expanded winter flight schedule and the long-anticipated addition of passenger jet bridges,” said Ed Ratuski, Executive Managing Director of Hamilton International. “We’re building on the ‘travel refreshed’ momentum of this past summer, with more terminal enhancements and new Canada Customs and NEXUS kiosks to make the international arrivals experience seamless and more convenient for our guests.”
Porter Airlines is chasing the sun, adding nonstop, weekly flights to Mexico, The Bahamas and Florida with service to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando starting in December. The WestJet Group continues to offer enhanced vacation packages through Sunwing Vacations Group’s tour operating and retail brands, with weekly service to Cancun and Punta Cana returning in December. Air Canada and The Landline Company continue to operate daily motorcoach service between Hamilton International and Toronto Pearson, connecting Air Canada and Star Alliance passengers directly to and from YHM at no additional cost.
Travellers are encouraged to arrive at the Airport at least two hours prior to domestic departures and three hours prior to international departures to allow ample time for parking, check-in and security screening. Travellers can also secure their parking spot in advance and save by pre-booking through Hamilton International’s online reservation system. Parking reservations are available for booking now at parking.flyhamilton.ca.
