Alaska Airlines Suspends Change Fees

The carrier temporarily suspended change and cancellation fees for new flight bookings.
Alaska Airlines said it will suspend cancellation and change fees on new flight bookings for guests who decide not to travel because of concerns related to the Covid-19 virus.
From now through March 12, 2020, passengers who decide to change or cancel their trip will receive full travel credit for up to one year from the issuance of the credit.
Though the carrier doesn’t serve any markets currently impacted by the virus (China, South Korea, Italy and Iran), and operates flights in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica, “the coronavirus is creating confusion and anxiety for some.”
“Our first goal is to keep our guests safe, and offer peace of mind when it comes to flying with us,” Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, said in a statement. “So, through this period, if you need to change your plans after booking a flight, we’ll work with you on new arrangements and you won’t have to worry about any change or cancellation fees.”
The policy applies to all fares, including Saver Fares, which typically is not available for changes or cancellations.
JetBlue also lifted change and cancellation fees in anticipation of guests growing concerns. American Airlines, Delta, and United have all issued waivers for individual countries with outbreaks.
