Disneyland Resort Outlines Phased Reopening Plan

Just days after it began welcoming out-of-state guests on Tuesday, California’s Disneyland Resort has revealed details of its phased reopening plan.

The resort closed for the first time in its 65-year history for a month back on March 12, 2020, and remained closed until April 30, 2021. But now, there is a path to a full reopening.

Both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World in Florida will welcome back its popular nighttime fireworks spectaculars, beginning in July.

As Disneyland welcomes back all guests, the firework shows start July 4 with “Mickey’s Mix Magic” presented nightly throughout the summer. State-of-the-art projections, show lighting, and lasers will transform Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the façade of “it’s a small world” into a family-fun dance party with fireworks to celebrate the leader of the club, Mickey Mouse.

The park is easing other COVID-19 protocols as well.  As of June 15, face coverings are no longer be required for fully vaccinated guests both indoors and outdoors. Guests ages 2 and up who are not fully vaccinated must continue wearing face coverings indoors, except when dining.

Disneyland will not ask for proof of vaccination. Instead, guests will be asked to “self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry” prior to entering the theme parks when making their Disneyland Resort theme park reservations.

The requirement for on-site temperature checks has also been discontinued. In addition, California has removed the physical distancing requirements, so Disneyland will allow guests “to self-determine distancing.”

When the Toy Story parking lot reopens on June 18, all Guests (ages 2 and up) regardless of vaccination status will be required to wear an appropriate face covering while on the bus transportation from the lot to the parks.

Disneyland said it will continue to do so through the reservation system, which was implemented due to capacity limits when the parks reopened.

Disneyland’s new Marvel Cinematic Universe-themed Avengers Campus area finally opened on June 4. Avengers Campus, located in California Adventure, includes the Guardians of the Galaxy ride opened in 2017, as well as the new ride WEB slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure.
