American Queen Voyages has canceled the Oct. 19 sailing of Ocean Navigator after a generator fire forced the evacuation of the previous sailing. The ship had just arrived in Portland, ME where cruisers were due to disembark when the fire broke out.

“No passengers were injured and thanks to the quick action of our crew, everyone has been safely evacuated off of the vessel,” an AQV spokesperson told TMR on Oct. 17.

One crew member was injured and received care at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Unfortunately, despite the fire being put out quickly, the ship is not ready to sail again.

“American Queen Voyages has made the difficult decision to cancel our Oct. 19 sailing from Portland to St. John due to a combination of the recent mechanical issues caused by the generator fire… as well as the adverse weather conditions forecasted for the upcoming weekend.”

“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause our passengers, and we want to emphasize that this decision was not made lightly… after careful consideration and evaluation of various factors by our Captain, it has been determined that it is unsafe to embark on this journey.”

AQV is helping guests make arrangements to travel home and has offered a compensation package for those who have been affected.
