Carnival Cruise Line’s Triumph, which has been sailing with the cruise line since 1999, is set to get a major facelift and come back into service as a brand new ship, with a brand new name, in 2019.

The ship will undergo a $200 million bow-to-stern makeover, Carnival announced this week. It will then reenter service on Mar. 1, 2019 as Carnival Sunrise.

“The introduction of Carnival Sunrise will provide our guests with an array of exciting dining, bar and entertainment choices. The new Carnival Sunrise is part of our multi-billion-dollar ship enhancement program that is transforming our fleet on an unprecedented scale,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

The ship will spend two months in drydock receiving a makeover to its staterooms, all of which will get new island-inspired itineraries motivated by the Caribbean, along with a lot of Carnival’s signature food, beverage, and entertainment additions.

New eateries include Cucina del Capitano, an Italian restaurant; JavaBlue Café, a coffee bar; the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse; Bonsai Express for sushi in a casual dining environment; The Chef’s Table on the forward of the ship; Cherry on Top candy store; Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, a Carnival signature from its partnership with Food Network’s Guy Fieri; and the Lido Marketplace at poolside.

For adult entertainment, the ship will also offer the RedFrog Pub, a Caribbean-themed rum and beer bar; Piano Bar 88; and the Limelight Lounge.

In addition, brand new for Carnival, the Liquid Lounge will be introduced on the vessel. Open both during the day and night, the lounge will give cruisers a chance to participate in Hasbro, The Game Show; and will be home to some of Carnival’s high-tech Playlist Productions.

Outside of food and drink, Carnival is adding a ropes course and recreation deck called SportSquare, along with its WaterWorks Water Park and Serenity Adult Only Retreat. Those features are signatures of many of the more recent Carnival ships, including its newest megaship, Horizon.

A new Cloud 9 Spa, Carnival’s health and wellness area, a refreshed Camp Ocean area, and expanded retail spaces will also be added.

After the drydock, Sunrise will kick off a season of sailings from Norfolk, Virginia, starting with a seven-day sailing that visits Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Freeport. It will then reposition to New York in May, offering a series of cruises ranging from 4-14 days including journeys to New England and Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

After a 14-day Panama Canal journey, Sunrise will then head to Fort Lauderdale, where it will offer four-day and five-day Caribbean sailings. The five-day sailings will include calls in Cuba, along with stops in The Bahamas, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Grand Turk.

All of these sailings are currently open for booking.
