Carnival Cruise Line Ships Collide in Cozumel

by Jessica Montevago  December 23, 2019

The Carnival Glory and Carnival Legend collided Friday morning while at port in Cozumel, Mexico, leaving six passengers injured.

Carnival Glory had an allusion – when a moving vessel collides with a stationary object – with Carnival Legend, the company said.

Carnival Glory was in the process of docking when it made contact with Carnival Legend which was already docked, damaging the front end.

“We are assessing the damage but there are no issues that impact the seaworthiness of either ship. We have advised guests from both ships to enjoy their day ashore in Cozumel,” Carnival said in a statement.

Six guests with minor injuries gone to the Carnival Glory medical center for evaluation, but only one suffered minor injuries. Guests were being evacuated from the dining room on decks 3 and 4, according to the company.

Carnival said in a letter to Glory passengers a formal investigation is underway, though it is believed to be caused by spontaneous wind gusts and strong currents.

The Carnival Glory, which left its home port in New Orleans on Sunday, was scheduled to dock in the port at 10 a.m Friday. It departed Friday evening instead. Other than making some slight adjustments to accommodations in the dining room, all activities are taking place as planned and the ship will complete its scheduled itinerary. Any questions, please let me know.
