Disney Cruise Line’s Newest Ship Disney Wish Floated Out

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, Disney Wish, completed a major phase of its construction, culminating in its float out at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The float out was celebrated with fireworks, musical fanfare, and an appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse.

The float-out took some five hours and required 29 million gallons of water from the River Ems to flood the building dock. The maneuver was made even more complicated by the fact that Disney Wish had only three feet of clearance on either side as it exited the dock.

The first new ship from Disney since 2012, Disney Wish debuts July 14 in Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship will feature several new-to-Disney experiences including “Frozen”- and Marvel-themed restaurants, and The AquaMouse water coaster ride. It will also have new cabin categories, as well as a high-end lounge set in the Star Wars galaxy.

Disney Wish is the first of three new LNG-powered Disney Cruise Line ships to be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard through 2025. It will be the fifth ship in the Disney fleet.
