MSC Cruises Unveils Catalina Sugar Beach Destination in the Dominican Republic

MSC Cruises is revealing details of its upcoming “Catalina Sugar Beach,” a new Catalina Island destination off the coast of La Romana, Dominican Republic, set to open in November 2026.
Operated in partnership with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, the destination is currently receiving significant enhancements. Highlights of the destination will include an open-air beach pavilion buffet, offering international dishes and local specialties. An adjacent shaded dining area offers comfortable al-fresco table seating with panoramic sea views.
Two bars will be on offer including a tropical open-air palapa bar.
A water sports center will offer equipment for rental for those who want to do more than relax.
Shore excursions will offer the chance to get even closer to nature and include a relaxing catamaran exploration of the surrounding waters, snorkeling, boat trips to Isla Saona Island, or visits to the nearby Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón. Guests also can opt to elevate their experience with one of the new cabanas on offer.
Because the destination is being operated in partnership with other entities it will not be open exclusively to MSC guests. While those sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys will be able to visit the site, so, too, will guests stating at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas.
MSC Cruises commences weekly sailings from its new La Romana homeport in November, with MSC Opera calling at the new Sugar Beach destination on every itinerary.
