Oceania Sirena to Depart Oceania Cruises Fleet in 2028

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has entered into an agreement to sell Oceania Sirena, the company announced during its most recent quarterly earnings call. Though the closing of the sale will take place during the three months ended September 30, 2026, the ship will continue to operate for Oceania through the spring of 2028 due to the enactment of a bareboat charter agreement with the new owner.

Oceania Sirena is an R-class ship originally built in 1999 as R Four for Renaissance Cruises. It joined the Oceania Cruises fleet in 2016.

Sirena’s sister ship Oceania Regatta is already scheduled to commence a two‑year time charter in late 2026. At the conclusion of the initial term, the charter may be extended for multiple years or the vessel may be sold to a third‑party cruise operator.

The moves are part of a fleet optimization strategy initiated in 2025. As part of the strategy, the company initially entered into 10-year bareboat charter agreements for Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun, commencing in late 2026 and late 2027, respectively. Each agreement incudes a nominal purchase option.

Norwegian Sky is sailing its last cruises for Norwegian Cruise Line, after its farewell journey, which was scheduled to depart from Greece on Sept. 9, 2026, and head to the Oman, was canceled due to security concerns.

This year, the strategy was further executed on with a nine-year bareboat charter agreement for Regent’s Seven Seas Navigator, which is scheduled to commence in late 2027 and is also inclusive of a purchase option.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings previous announcement about its decision to retain and repurpose Oceania Nautica as Aurelia in late 2027 is also part of the fleet optimization strategy.
