Princes Cruises welcomed its newest ship on Monday, Discovery Princess, during a ceremony at Monfalcone, Italy’s Fincantieri Shipyard.

The ship, the sixth and final Royal-class ship for Princess, will now leave Italy and head to Los Angeles where it will sail a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast cruises starting at the end of March.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Princess Cruises as we officially take ownership of the spectacular Discovery Princess,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president.

“We extend our immense gratitude to our long-time and trusted partners at Fincantieri, the shipbuilders of all six of our Royal-Class vessels with Discovery Princess, and look forward to welcoming our first guests to experience the beauty of the ship when they embark in just a few weeks.”

Discovery Princess is similar to its sister ship Enchanted Princess but without the Bistro Sur La Mer eatery. Discovery includes some of the largest balconies at sea in the Sky Suites, The Sanctuary spa, and more.

The ship, which was one of TMR’s 17 New Ships for 2022, is also highlighted by a number of food and dining options including:

  • Gigi’s Pizza: This pizzeria takes the place of Alfredo’s.
  • Salty Dog Gastropub: A gastropub experience developed by Chef Ernesto Uchimura.
  • Take Five: A atmospheric bar where live jazz and craft cocktails are the main attractions.

Princess Cruises just recently extended its Book with Confidence policy to Summer 2022 sailings. The policy includes all Princess sailings through Sept. 30, 2022, as long as they are booked by March 2, 2022, and allows for changes to be made up to 30 days prior to departure, with cancellation fees received as future cruise credits.

Princess’ vaccination requirement for guests, which has been in place since the line’s restart, will also continue for the same sailings. This comes even as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) makes its cruise requirements optional.
