Regent Seven Seas Names Newest Fleet Addition

by Daniel McCarthy  November 16, 2017
Regent Seven Seas Names Newest Fleet Addition

Luxury cruise line Regent Seven Seas has revealed the name of its newest ship, scheduled for delivery in early 2020.

The ship will be called Seven Seas Splendor, and will enter service as a sister-ship to Seven Seas Explorer, the ultra-luxury ship that made waves when it entered service in 2015.

The name was chosen after an open call for suggestions from travel agents, guests, and employees in September brought in nearly 2,600 unique names among 14,000 submissions.

“The extraordinary demand for Seven Seas Explorer has reinforced our decision to expand our fleet,” Regent Seven Seas President and CEO Jason Montague said in a statement announcing the naming.

Splendor will be Regent’s fifth ship when it enters service. It will feature all-suite, all-balcony accommodations for 750 guests per sailing.

While not a lot of details of Splendor have been released, as a sister ship to Explorer, guests can expect some of the ultra-luxury features, including, perhaps, the $10,000-per-night Regent Suite, Canyon Ranch Spa Club, the Constellation Theater, and an all-inclusive rate.

More than 80 percent of Regent’s bookings come from travel agents, according to Travel Market Report’s 2017 Cruise Report Card for Travel Agents. As a small luxury line, Regent relies on agents to help it achieve more brand recognition.

“Everyone in the luxury market is looking for experiences, and the travel advisor is a huge component in that, making sure the customer is getting the luxury experience they expect,” Montague told TMR earlier this year.

“The luxury experience starts with the very first phone call and doesn’t end until the customer gets home,” Montague added. “The key is to have a partner who understands that.”
