Hawaiian Airlines Boosts Service from California, Seattle

Hawaiian Airlines is adding more flights between its Hawaiian hubs and U.S. West Coast cities in anticipation of a boost in demand during the holiday season.

Starting next month, Hawaiian is boosting service between Seattle and Honolulu to twice daily, service between Los Angeles International and Kahului to twice daily, and service between Honolulu and San Francisco to once daily on Monday through Thursday and then twice daily from Friday to Sunday.

All routes had been once-daily prior to the additions.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our guests with our warm hospitality as they spend this holiday season safely enjoying the islands or visiting with friends and loved ones on the mainland,” said Brent Overbeek, senior vice president of network planning and revenue management at Hawaiian Airlines.

There is an increased optimism surrounding Hawaii tourism after Hawaii Gov. David Ige earlier in October said that Hawaii will once again welcome travelers starting on Nov. 1, almost two months since asking tourists to stay away because of rising COVID-19 case counts, a trend that has since subsided. 

Travelers will still have to abide by the state’s COVID-19 protocols, which include showing proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival. However, the news on Tuesday means that Hawaii is finally inviting travelers back to the islands, something that Ige said the state was holding off on earlier this month, and something that has caused an uneven recovery for Hawaii’s tourism industry.
