Universal Studios Japan Reveals More Details of Super Nintendo World

Universal Studios Japan this week revealed more of what its highly-anticipated new theme park, Super Nintendo World, which opens on Feb. 4, 2021, will look like.

The themed and immersive land, which will also highlight Universal Orlando’s third theme park Epic Univese when it opens, will transport guests inside their favorite Nintendo games. There will be Mario Kart- and Yoshi-themed rides and attractions, Peach’s Castle and Bowser’s Castle, restaurants, and shops.

Inside Bowser’s Castle, stone walls, spiked fences, and heavy iron doors along with a massive stone statue of Bowser are at the center of a grand staircase. At the heart of the castle is Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, the world’s first interactive Mario Kart theme park ride.

Guests will put on a headset to take them through the Mario Kart universe. They will steer into the Mushroom Kingdom and throw shells as they race to the finish line with Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach! Win or lose, every race is a brand-new, life-sized Mario Kart experience.

On Yoshi’s Adventure, Guests will climb atop Yoshi’s back and follow Captain Toad on a treasure hunt. Guests will need to find three colored eggs that lead the way to the Golden Egg that Captain Toad was seeking, with a view of the Mushroom Kingdom from Mount Beanpole along the way.

Super Nintendo World will also offer an all-new type of “Asobi” play experience where they will jump, punch, block and collect virtual coins to bring the experience of playing Super Mario games to the real world. Guests will wear a Power-Up Band which brings gameplay to life and allows them to keep score.

The Power Up Band Key Challenge will have guests work their way through the games located throughout the area to collect three keys to retrieve the Golden Mushroom that Bowser Jr. has stolen.

The band links to Universal Studios Japan app and will be available for purchase with any type of Universal Express Pass.

The grand opening of Super Nintendo World will kick off the park’s year-long 20th Anniversary Celebration. Universal Studios Japan is currently operating at restricted capacity and fully implementing strict measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
