Baggage Fees Chug Into the Amtrak Station
Amtrak today took a step closer to its airline competitors and rolled out its first excess baggage fee.
Effective October 1, each passenger will be limited to two bags that weigh up to 50 pounds each and two personal items weighing up to 25 pounds each. Parents traveling with children under the age of two can bring an additional item, such as a diaper bag or stroller.
Each additional bag will incur a $20 fee.
Amtrak said the fee is designed to safeguard its existing policy, preserve space on the trains, and reduce safety concerns.
