An iconic property is reborn and wellness is at the heart of its next chapter.
TMR Canada was in Cancun, Mexico this past weekend alongside guests from around the world to celebrate the reopening of Paradisus Cancun, which recently completed a US$55-million transformation.
For Meliá Hotels International, the new chapter also marked an opportunity to unveil a refreshed brand positioning with a stronger focus on wellness, featuring an enhanced selection of treatments, activities and experiences.
The pyramid-shaped resort, the first property in the Paradisus brand and soon to celebrate its 40th anniversary, marked its glow-up with an official celebration on October 18.
A meeting with Meliá Hotels International President Gabriel Escarrer and an official tour of the hotel gave media representatives an opportunity to discover the property’s upgrades ahead of a grand evening celebration.

A Fresh Look for an Iconic Resort
Having visited Paradisus Cancun twice over the past decade, I was particularly curious to discover Paradisus 2.0.
For me, the most striking change is the new guestroom decor. Tropical colours and dark wooden furniture have given way to a softer palette dominated by cream and earthy tones, accented by locally crafted pieces.
The overall look is bright, calming and decidedly more modern. It’s beautiful and refreshing.

The transformation is also evident from the moment guests arrive, with a redesigned lobby featuring green crystals and hanging plants. The result is lush and inspiring.
The restaurants – including Kao, a new Japanese restaurant – have been reimagined. The spa has also been enhanced and the activities program has been revamped.
Wellness Takes Centre Stage
Wellness now serves as a common thread throughout the guest experience, from yoga and sound relaxation sessions to arts and crafts and cooking workshops.
This repositioning is supported in part by Destination Inclusive, the brand’s program that incorporates local culture and heritage into the guest experience.

During an interview with TMR Canada, President Escarrer expressed particular pride in the program, describing it as “extremely important” to the brand.
“We launched Destination Inclusive because, too often, guests at all-inclusive resorts don’t venture outside the resort enough,” he told us. “The goal is to offer them the very best within the resort, while also giving them opportunities to explore, enjoy personalized experiences and connect with the local culture.”
At Paradisus Cancun, this approach includes sunset cruises, arts and crafts and cooking workshops, and mixology evenings, all included for guests staying in The Reserve section. Experiences vary by hotel and destination.
New Spaces for Rest, Recovery & Fitness
Among the other additions is the Longevity Suite, a space dedicated to rest and recovery.
Vibroacoustic loungers, optional meditation sessions, compression equipment and various light-based technologies expand the traditional spa experience.
The property is also introducing FACE SPAce by Comfort Zone, offering five 40-minute facial treatments, along with targeted treatments for the neck and décolletage, eye area and hands.
A Red Light Yoga studio and workshops featuring Therabody red light therapy masks have been incorporated into the gym, which has also been completely renovated.
The fitness centre also features a smoothie bar in partnership with Habits, a local protein brand, as well as Pilates, barre, meditation and sound therapy classes.
The daily activities program is built around four pillars: mental clarity, core strength and flexibility, high intensity, and mindful living. Yoga, Pilates, breathing exercises, dance and aquatic workouts are offered alongside activities such as Disco Spinning and ice baths.
Something for Every Traveller
The resort continues to offer different experiences tailored to various traveller profiles. The Reserve provides an adults-only experience with additional services and privileges, while Family Concierge offers personalized services designed for families.
Both include a dedicated Destination Concierge and a selection of Destination Inclusive experiences.
Families will also discover the Family Concierge lounge, Splash Island at Aquazone and a redesigned Kidsdom children’s club. The Play District Sports Bar is another addition to the resort’s entertainment offerings.
A New Era for Paradisus
“This transformation is the first step in a renewal of the Paradisus brand,” Escarrer said. “Paradisus Cancun was the brand’s first property. After nearly 40 years, it was time for a refresh. Today, guests are looking for a wellness-focused experience. We wanted to meet their expectations, and even exceed them.
“The property in Playa del Carmen, which is only 10 years old, is also undergoing a transformation. The ultimate goal is for all Paradisus properties to reflect this new vision and deliver a consistent experience across the brand.”
