Jamaica to Open New Convention Center
The new Montego Bay Convention Centre is expected to open as early as September or October. This will “put Jamaica in the same realm as other major Caribbean convention destinations such as Puerto Rico and Cancun,” said Donnie Dawson, Jamaica’s director of tourism sales.
Located in the Rose Hall area of Montego Bay, the new convention center is across from the Ritz Carlton and the Rose Hall Hilton, and only 15 minutes from the airport. The facility will feature 52,213 square feet of exhibition space, a 20,925 square foot banquet hall, and 11,334 square feet of meeting space, allowing the flexibility of conversion into nine meeting rooms, with the largest able to accommodate 700 persons.
“We will now be in a different category of meeting venue, able to house 5,000-6,000 person conventions, where exhibit space, meetings and evening functions can all be held under one roof.
We anticipate that this will spur the building of new hotels,” added Dawson.
